PROGRAM
The resort itself already offers tranquility under the trees, tents in hammocks, the water with rapids, the passing residents in their (motor) dugout canoes, in short: the direct natural environment.
To stay connected with the natural surroundings, a boat excursion to the Apeesina Waterfall should not be missed. Simply watching the skill of the boatman and his assistant, seeing the kula-man in action, is fascinating enough to continue supporting the values, skills, and expressions of life in the interior. This not particularly high waterfall offers swimming opportunities and a ‘natural jacuzzi’ as an attraction for visitors.
With the motorized dugout canoe, a crossing is made to the villages of Duwata and Bëkyooköndë for a tribal village orientation.
You will come into contact with the lifestyle of the Saamaka tribe and also discover the preserved African influences in the lifestyle, culture, and practices of the people of this community, as part of what should be offered in Suriname in terms of community tourism.
Sëkëti dance, bandaamba, apuku are sporty dance forms that can be performed during cultural events.
Spending a day with a family on their farm plot to experience how the residents spend their daily lives in their living area provides much more understanding and insight into the lives of the tribal peoples. It is also interesting to go fishing with the locals. Hunting is not recommended, as it carries many risks and dangers.
A visit to the Brokopondo Reservoir is also worthwhile, although seeing the drowned land may be shocking for some participants. Such a drastic devastation caused by human actions could perhaps have been approached with more respect and appreciation for nature.
After nearly an hour of sailing, a stop is made on a remaining hilltop, and the tourist is allowed to cool off in the water of the lake for about an hour.
The water also has a high concentration of river (freshwater) fish.
A special fishing trip is also offered as an attraction by Bakaaboto Nature Resort.
